With shoe prices soaring, and many styles costing more today
at wholesale than we are asking at retail, it would be folly to
reduce the prices of a single pair except that we are badly
overstocked on some lines; and with spring shipments soon ue
to arrive we must reduce our present stock.

E tor, The Michigan Daily:
Life is never dreary while there is a
cause worth fighting for (or against).
The Gargoyle has loug recognized this
and has seen the enlivening possibil-
ities in having somebody to attack.
Accordingly it has become "woman's
humbie spear" to provide for the de-
elopmnent of these possibilities. Now
the Inlander too is reaching an ad-
vn ed stage in this regard, but with
a peculiar lack of originality, it has
chosen the Gargoyle's own pet sub-
ject.
But are we not flattering our co-eds
unduly? Can a mere thousand girls be
entirely responsible for lack of col-
lege spirit, and the decline of athletics
and all the other shortcomings of
6,000 men? Sometimes when a man
refuses to go in for activities, it may
Ie a case of "cherchez la femme." But
we often find the search leading to
ypsi or Detroit.
And while we are speaking of the
true Michigan man, something might
be said of the true Michigan woman.
Oh yes, there is such a person, and
she is not in the habit of discouraging
her men friends in campus activities.
On the contrary, she is inclined to
he proud of men who are doing things
worth while. And incidentally, she
ha a'tivides of her own to take up
some of the leisure time which might
otherwise be spent in pining for mas-
culine society. Professional "fussers"
of both sexes may be left out of con-
sideration. There are not many of
them, and they are of slight conse-
quence.
If the literary department has not
given its full proportion of campus
leaders, some reason for it besides
"fussing" must be sought.
Men and women do not generally
consider mere contact in classes a suf-
lb-lnt introduction to base friendships
pon. And most girls will say that
they prefer to meet men from other
Ipartments. "The professional stu-
lents are usually older, and have more
