ARREST B.W W LEWIS IN COLBERTDEATH TANGLE Warrant for Pittsburg Broker First Issued in Connection with Murder of Model Philadelphia, 'Jan. 4.-The first ar- rest growing out of the brutal mur- der of Mazie Colbert, pretty model, last Friday was ordered this afternoon, when Captain of Detectives Tate swore out a warrant for the appre- hension of Bernard W. Lewis, son of Wenman Lewis, a prominent Plts- burg lawyer. No connection with the murder it- self is attached to the arrest of Lewis who is specifically charged with hav- ing defrauded Elwood Powell of $19 taxi fare. The issuance of the war- rant led to the belief that Lewis is the man who ordered the taxi at the Belle- vue-Stratford, accompanied two wom- en to Germantown and then ordered Powell to drive to the Wilton apart- ments. A police "flyer" was sent broad- cast ordering Lewis' arrest for "de- fraud." A "flyer" is a telegrgm by which a person can be held to await the ar- rival of the warrant itself. The po- lice have declared that a man who got out of the machine and entered the Wilton apartments must have been the last person to see her before she was found beaten to death, and that he might be able to throw some light on the murder. Lewis Absent for Several Weeks Pittsburg, Jan. 4.-Bernard Lewis has been in the east for several weeks, according to Wenman Lewis, father of the broker. The elder Lewis declared that he doesn't know the present whereabouts of his son. He would not discuss the case at all. Lewis is connected with the Findley, Lewis Coal company. Efforts to get in communication with members of his family were futile. I George Lovett & Co. Frank Stafford & Co.
