Exquisitely beaded Georgette crepe waists are here for as little as $7.50. Main and Liberty ' .. ,_F ,-_ .. , "How did the Red Cross seals or- iginate?" is a question that is being asked by many students of the Uni- versity when it was heard that more than 420,000 of the stickers have been placed on sale in Ann Arbor. To Jacob Riis, the well known so- cial worker of New York, and to Miss Emily P. Bissell, secretary of the Delaware Red Cross society, jointly belong the honor of originating the Christmas Red Cross seal. In 1909, Mr. Riis' attention was call- ed to a tuberculosis stamp on a letter from Norway. The Outlook published. his ideas regarding a similar stamp for the United States. Miss Bissell read the story and was impressed by the idea. She induced the American Red Cross to take up the sale of the seals on a national basis. That year more than $135,000 were taken in by the tuberculosis workers. Last year about 33,000,000 of the stick- ers were sold which netted more than $330,000 to the cause. The authorities of the engineering college have arranged with the facul- ty of Purdue, for a series of exchange lectures to be given at some time next April. Prof. F. W. Pawlowski has been chosen to be the Michigan lecturer at Purdue, while Professor Lawrence W. Wallace will talk here as the representative of that university. Professor Pawlowski has signified his intention of giving four lectures dealing with the theory of aeronautics. The number of lectures Professor Wallace will give is not certain as yet, although he will probably give the same number as the Michigan speaker. The lectures of Professor Wallace will be on various phases of railroad operation and management. The use of powered coal, superheated steam, and other improvements in the opera- tion of locomotives and trains will be discussed, and the series will be closed with a talk on railway management. This system of exchange lectures between the two colleges was inau- gurated last year by Professor Ewing, of Purdue, who lectured here on the electrification of railroads, and Prof. I. E. Riggs, of the engineering college, who lectured at Purdue, on the valua- tion of public utilities. 5. Winter Wear WE DO FOR MEN TYPEWRITING MULTIGRAPHING MIMEOGRAPHING Typewriters for sale or rent.
