(By Carl W. Ackerman, United Press Correspondent.) Berlin, Oct. 3.-Efforts of the von Tirpitz party to force a resumption of submarine warfare will be defeated as the result of the conferences now be- ing held in secret sessions of the Reichstag committee, it is now gener- ally believed. The Tirpitzes, however, hope, to force a public discussion of the whole question when the Reichstag reconvenes Thursday. Ernest Basserman, gray-haired Na- tional Liberal party leader, and one of the most important figures in the reichstag, declared today after the question had been aired at the budget committee meetings it will be fully discussed. "We wish to live in peace and friendship with America," said Basser- man, "but undoubtedly there is bitter feeling here because American supplis of ammunition enable our enemies to continue the war. If America should succeed in forcing England to obey in- ternational law, restore freedom of the seas and proceed with American en- ergy against England's bullying of neutrals, it would have a deciding in- fluence in the political situation be- tween the two countries." "Do you think submarine warfare will be renewed?" he was asked. "That must be decided by the foreign office, the minister of marines and the general staff," he replied. "England is our enemy. We must recognize this and defeat her." STUDENTS MUST HAVE BOOKS FOR THIS AFTERNOON'S GAME It will be well for the campus to remember that with the Marietta game coming this afternoon, that athletic coupon books are required at the gates and that the athletic office will be rushed to the limit in supplying these books. Therefore, it behoves all to get their books as early in the day as possible and thereby ease the condi- tions which will naturally result from tardy application. In case the crowd is too large the office cannot pass out the books with any speed and many will not have their legitimate chance to get into Ferry field gates after they have paid their athletic fees. For the benefit of new men the athletic offices are in the Ann Arbor Press building on Maynard street, op- posite the Majestic theater. Get 'em early!
