No. o# Ann Arbor, Michigan, Saturday, September 30, 1916 Issued Gratis FORMER RECORDS ARE SMASHED BY FALL ATTENOENCE LIT COLLEGE GETS INCREASE OF 136 OVER LAST YEAR; TOTAL r, 707 SLAVS TO BE NUMEROUS Russians and Poles Given Official Credentials to Attend Amer- ican Colleges In all probability the 8,ooo mark will be closely approached this year. Figures given out by university authorities for registration up to Friday night indicate that all for- mer attendance records of the uni- versity will be broken this year. The present total for the college of Literature, Science, and the Arts is 1,707. This is 156 more than the registration at the same time last year. Figuring on the basis of the experience of last year the total gain for the lit college this year cannot be less than i6o, and a gain for the whole university of at least 400 is expected. Although figures are not avail- able for the exact registration in any but the lit college, -R. A. Camp- bell, treasurer of the -university, has stated that there is an unusual- ly heavy early registration this year in all departments. The freshmen, especially, seem anxious to get here early and to get settled. The ma- iority of the upperclassmen will register today and Monday. On ac- count of the heavy registration on the first days there has been less congestion than formerly, and there were very few cases where students had to'wait long in line. An unusual number of Russians probably will be an addition to the university. this year. Two entrance certificates have been issued to graduates of the East Chinese Railroad high school, in Harbin, Manchuria. Polish diplomas also are coming in to the office and are being hon- ored. "BILLY" SUNDAY MAY SPEAK HERE ABOUT OCTOBER 23 NOTED REVIVALIST MAY GIVE SERMON IN WEIN- BERG'S COLLISEUM ADDRESS IS FOR STUDENTS Large Ann Arbor Delegation Visits Evangelist in Detroit Where He is Campaigning "Billy" Sunday, noted revivalist, who is at present conducting a cam- paign in Detroit, may deliver one of, his acrobatic sermons in Ann Arbor on Monday afternoon, Octo- ber 23, in the Weinberg Colliseum. Sunday will decide whether or not to appear here at the Kresge home in Detroit today where he is to be visited by an Ann Arbor dele- gation composed of students, min- isters, and business men. Already the Sunday campaign association has given Ann Arbor October 23 as a tentative date. Such an address would be chiefly for students in the university, it is believed. Only the short distance from Detroit would enable Sunday to make this visit, since he is busy every afternoon and evening, with the exception of Monday, at his mammoth tabernacle situated on Cass avenue near Second. At least 6o inhabitants of Anti Arbor left this morning on a special car, bound for the Kresge home ii Detroit, where Sunday is stopping during his campaign, to urge th4 revivalist to appear here. Follows ing the conference with Sunday, the delegation will disperse, plan- ning to attend Sunday's afternoon meeting before returning to Ann Arbor.
