Parker, of the electrical engineering department, has already received inquiries from the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Co. and the Westinghouse Co., regarding the securing of positions for the senior electricals who will graduate during the coming year. The Westinghouse company will send its representative, Mr. H. M. Biebel, to the engineering college next Monday in order that the seniors may secure first hand information about the company and its employment pol- icy. Mr. Biebel will hold consultations on Monday and Tuesday mornings in Professor Parker's office. The Dayton company is the concern which manufactures the Delco self- starters and ignition systems for auto- mobiles. The policy of the Westinghouse is to shift college graduates through the different departments in the various factories until the men have a good practical knowledge of the business. Regarding this system Professor Park- er says, "It is my personal belief that such jobs are the best kind a man can get. While the wages are small, the man who tackles the work for a year or two is going to do big things in the future, on account of the broad ex- perience it is possible to get in this manner." The smoker of the juniors last night will go down as an epoch making event in the history of the class, for it was on this occasion that the char- acteristic color of the corduroy trous- ers was decided upon. The color is to be a gray-brown, but in other re- pects the "pants" will be similar to those worn by the seniors. The members of the class can have their measurements taken at the store of Allen & Co., on Main street, who have been awarded the contract, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week, or in the Engineering society's room on Friday afternoon from 1 to 5 o'clock. Delivery will be made by the tailor two weeks after the order has been taken. Those who desire to do so can also order a coat and vest of the same material as the trousers. Any junior who has not handed in his name, nickname and address to B. E. Breckinridge, for the class dir- ectory, should do so at once. Breck- enridge will be at the Technic desk on Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 5 o'clock to receive late entries. Sophomore engineers will hold their first smoker of the year at the Union tonight at 7:30 o'clock. A musical program has been arranged and cider and refreshments of a more substanti- al nature will be on hand In ample quantities. Prof. J. R. Allen, head of the mechanical engineering department,, and Maurice F. Dunne, '17L, Varsity left end, will give talks. U. S.
