These rules embody the regulations which have been in effect in- the campus for sev- eral years, and will probably merely be added to by many houses, to fit their own needs. Acting upon a re- quest from the University Committee on Student Affairs, these rules have been distributed to every house and to the two dormitories. Closing hours are set at 10:00 or. 10:30 o'clock; freshmen are limited to three social engagements, from which, however, all University activ- ities, such as Choral Union Concerts, mass meetings and lectures, are ex- cluded. Attendance at Sunday "movies" is barred, and river engagements are to terminate not later than 10:00 o'clock. Each house is to provide quiet hours for study, which shall be enforced by the house head or proc- tors. Girls are also advised not to attend fraternity dinners, to call at men's houses or to visit hotels with- oiut a chaperone. A. announced that the Student Direc- tory would be on sale for 25 cents a copy. Last year the directory came out earlier than usual and sold for 35 cents a copy. Paper prices have risen greatly in the past year and the man- agement say that the price this year will have to be 50 cents. Lightning Hits Pole During Vacation The campus flag pole has just re- covered from an attack of lightning which struck on August 4. The bolt knocked the ball from the top of the pole and splintered the top section of the pole down for a distance of 35 feet. After reaching the junction of the two sections, the bolt ran down the guy wires and grounded without doing further damage. No campus buildings were struck. Malls Completed During Summer Two campus malls have been con- structed since the close of the Univer- sity last June. The mall leading from North University avenue to the rear of University Hall is complete as it now stands, but the drive between the Natural Science building and the Chemistry building is to be further improved by planted shrubbery. l11111!1111111l 11111iH lilliliiitliiliillI111Iul111111111 11111u1111ill Il 11llilil For your student room furnishings, - Study tables, desks, rugs or couch covers, draperies and easy chairs. - Prompt service and careful consideration given W Sto all orders. _ - 112-122E. In an attempt to aid freshmen women in every possible way, a tea room has been maintained throughout registration week by the junior ad- visors of the Women's League. A class room on the second floor~,of Univer- sity Hall has been completely refur- nished for the purpose, and has served as a meeting room for freshmen and their Junior advisors. From 2 to 5 o'clock every afternoon tea has been served here to the newly arrived women and their parents and friends. Junior advisors hive also been in attendance all week in the office as- sisting freshmen with their registra- tion and in making their elections. For those girls who have not already secured rooms, the juniors act as guides, taking them from house to house on the approved list of women's houses, until suitable arrangements have been made. The junior advisor system was in- augurated among the women several years ago, and has been elaborated each year. Helen Brock, '17, is chair- man.
