Central Allied Forces Remove Danger-
ous Salient Position of
Roumanians
Berlin, Nov. 8. -By the conquest of
Cabucek position which had been a
strong rendevous of the Roumanians,'
the German forces have removed the
last dangerous salient which jutted
from the Roumanian line in the Pre-
deal sector. The place captured is
a fortress situated near Predeal vil-
lage, and from its height of 1,303
meters, dominates the pass road as
well as the villages of Azuga. In tak-
ing the place the Austro-Germans cap-
tured eight cannon, 20 machine guns,
and 4,700 prisoners.
Berlin, Nov.8.-The war office state-
ment today admitted French and Brit-
ish claims of yesterday that the en-
tente allies had captured the village
of Ablaincourt and mentioned count-
er-attacks delivered against these
places last night without success.

COMPETE FOR PRESIDENCY

President's managers are regarding
the election as already won. A band
was hired, Secretary McAdoo distri-
buted brand new dimes as souvenirs,
and an impromptu parade passed Re-
publican headquarters to jeer at their
opponents, was carried out gleefully.
At 2 o'clock Senator Hollis, of New
Hampshire, informed Chairman Mc-
Cormick from Burlington that com-
plete returns from that state give it to
Wilson by 350 majority. The Repub-
licans were conceding nothing, and
sticking fast to their claim of Hughes'
election.
In the meantime President Wilson
and Governor Hughes were receiving
returns from their personal advisers.
Hughes was closeted in his New York
hotel; President Wilson at Shadow
Lawn was in communication with
Tumulty frequently in the morning
but in the afternoon upon reas-
uring reports from his secretary
the President went out for a game
of golf. Mrs. Wilson went with
him. Mrs. Hughes was at her hus-
band's side in New York.
Asbury Park, N. J., Nov. 8.-United
States Senator Chilton this afternoon
wired the President from West Virgin-
ia that the state had gone for Wilson.
"I did not want to wire until I was
sure," the message reads. "We have
the state and will guard it."
When the message was handed to
Secretary Tumulty he immediately!
called the president on the phone and
read him the message. They discuss-
ed the situation at length and finally
both agreed the President's re-elec-
tion appears assured in light of the
vote trend in California, Minnesota,
Oregon and New Mexico.
Fargo, N. D., Nov 8.-One thousand,
one hudred and fifty-one precincts out
of 1,859, give Hughes 33,339, Wilson
22,512. German districts in the south-
west section of North Dakota are com-
ing in strong for Hughes late this aft-

plete returns in Maryland give Wil-
son a majority of about 10,000. Dr.
Joseph I. France, Republican, has been
elected to the United States Senate
over David J. Lewis, Democrat.
New York, Nov. 8.-According to a
report reaching Democratic headquart-
ers late this afternoon, George W.
Perkins has conceded California to
Wilson on the basis of his own pri-
vate tabulation of election figures.
San Francisco, Nov. 8.-At 1:45
this afternoon tabulation by the United
Press of returns from 3,627 precincts
out of 5,870 in California showed Wil-
son leading Hughes by 9,744 votes.
The totals were Hughes 274,407, Wil-
son 284,151. These figures including
Alameda county complete, which gave
Hughes a plurality of 7,222 and the
greater part of San Francisco county

which showed a plurality for Wilson
of nearly 12,000.
Milwaukee, Nov. 8.--Conplete re-
turns show that former Congressman
Victor L. Berger and State Senator W.
R. Gaylord, Socialist congressional
candidates in the fifth and fourth dis-
tricts respectively have been defeated.
Socialists concede the election of Staf-
ford and Cary.
Sioux Falls, S. D., Nov. 8.-Woman
suffrage as a state issue is believed
to have been swept into South .Dakota
with the state wide prohibition and a
Republican ticket. The Republican
ticket seems about 12,000 to the good
with prohibition 20,000 strong.

Two Killed by Prentatire Explosion
Washington, Nov. 8.-Lieutenants
Luther Welsh and C. K. Bronson were
killed at the Indian Hlead testing
ground today by the premature explos-
ion of an aeroplane bomb. The officers
were dropping bombs from the aero-
plane tests when one of them exploded
directly beneath the machine.

HOLD TRIAL FOR MEN WHO HELD
UP JOHN HUSTON 'LAST SUNDAY
The trial of the three men who are
alleged to have held up John Huston
last Sunday and taken $220 from him
was delayed yesterday and will be
held at - 10 o'clock this morning in
Justice William G. Doty's court. The
men were said to have been celebrat-
ing a pre-election keg party. They are:
