Doctor Taylor is delivering his lec- tures at five of the most important universities in the middle west, Mich- igan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the University of Chicago. The*.second lecture will be given on a different phase of the subject tomorrow night, at the same time and place. The situation between Germany and Holland is still obscure. AU Day Battle Continues Paris, April 24.-The battle on the whole front south of the Somme and on the Avre lasted all day, and still continues, according to the war office announcement tonight. 'The Germans gained a footing in the woods to the northward of Hangard-en-Santerre, which the French are desperately de- fending. Heavy enemy assaults were shatter- ed near Hailles, and attacks on Senec- at Wood and Hill 62 also failed. Professor Waterman Tells City in Union Lee- too* of HolyI Five hundred people stood up and applauded Ambassador James W. Gerard and President Wilson as they were shown on the screen in "The Kaiser, The Beast of Berlin" at the Majestic last night. This picture is a patriotic produc- tion dealing with the devastation and destruction wrought by Germany up- on Belgium. It portrays historical bits of the world war, and shows the Kai- ser decorating a German commander of an undersea destroyer for the sink- Pg of the Lusitania. The medal shown in the picture is the real decoration that was struck by the German gov- ernment three days before the sink- ing of the vessel. The picture ends with the success- rul siege and capture of Berlin and the handing oer of the Kaiser to King Albert, of -Belgium to keep as 'his prisoner. Rupert Julian, as Wil- \helm II, acts the ignoble character Of the kaiser to perfection and is sup- ported by an excellent cast. This picture is one of the two re- cently released plays dealing with the 'kaiser, the other being "My Four Years in Germany," based on the book of the same name written by Ambassador Gerard. "The Kaiser" will be shown at the Majestic today and tomorrow, at the matinee and evening performances. AT THE ARCADE Alice Brady gives one of her best impersonations in the picture, "Woman and Wife, tplaying at the Arcp~de today and tomo~oV. Ifrhe tory is adapted from Charlotte Bronte's famous novel, "Jane Eyre." In the first reels, Miss Brady is seen in the role of a young girl whose unruly temper has compelled her relatives 'to send her to a reform school. In the later reels, she appears as the governess in the home of a wealthy Englishman whom she afterward 'marries. Miss Brady's interpretation of Jane is being very well received. "Like the crusaders of old, but with- out pomp and ceremony, General Al- lenby's forces entered Jerusalem last August and delivered the Holy city from the Turkish misrule under which it had lain ever since the middle ages," said Prof., Leroy Waterman last night,' in his lecture on "Jerusalem, Meso- potamia, and the War," given under the auspices of the Michigan Union. "General Allenby quietly entered the city through the Jaffa gate on foot, and immediately issued a pro- clamation in six languages, ordering protection for all sacred places of the town. In marked contrast was the visit of the kaiser, shortly before the war, when a part of the walls were torn down and the emperor dragged into the city like the Trojan horse, amid a great celebration." Professor Waterman's talk dealt chiefly with the historical importance of the country, three great religions having originated in Jerusalem, while Mesopotamia was the birthplace of the human race, the original garden of Eden. "The British campaign against Pal- estine was not a haphazard warfare against the Turks, but a determined effort to drive them from a position which threatened the Suez canal, oft- en called the 'Jugular vein of the Brit- ish empire." MEDICS DISPUTE BECOMES MORE ACUTE (Continued from Page One) warrantable excuses, we merely ques- tion the fairness of Lieutenant Mullen in making promises contradictory to general orders 49. "It seems hardly right that the brunt of Lieutenant Mullen's evident, misinterpretation of orders should fall upon students who enrolled for training in spite of scholastic difficul- ties, and with the understanding that they could be excused from drill if it interfered with their scholastic work.
