TTERI MENTOREPOR EIGHT PLAYERS ON HAND FOR WORK YESTER- DAY Varsity Off On Two Game Jaunt witceell's Men Play Indiana And 1 A Coach Lundgren .wants more men to It report for early baseball practice at f 1 o'clock this afternoon, so that he - will be able to start the hard drive y of training before the weather per- - mits out-door work. The battery can- t didates are scarce as but two new men reported this afternoon, Morrison and . Myraz. These men were given a light p practice with the big mit and a few laps around the track as a wind-up. Cooper, infielder and outfielder last n year, was out in a suit yesterday and from the present appearances, Coach Lundgren may shift him to first base position. Ruzicka, Bob Glenn, Tommy Adams, Knode and Gilmartin did not don baseball togs at yesterday's prac- tice but signified their intentions of reporting today for Varsity practice. Wallie Nieman, Michigan's former football and baseball star, is back to Ann Arbor on furlough from theGreat Lakes and the Jackie showed much interest in Coach Lundgren's pro- teges. Parks, the speed artist of last year's nine and on whom Coach Lund- gren based his hopes as a hurler this year is at the navy training camp with Nieman. Ruzicka says his knee is coming around in good -shape and the star hurler .will soon be seen shooting the fast ones over the pan in the big cage. Coach Lundgren, confronted with the same problem that the coaches of the fall sports had to contend with, the dearth of material, is of the opin- .ion that the Michigan nine will be of equal calibrejto the Conference teams Judging from the players that have thus far reported for practice. He is anxious to get an early start in order to fill up the vacant positions and make necessary shifts which must be done in order to 'bolster up the weak spots. Large Number To Compete In Meet Varsity Meet Saturday Night Attracts Many, I)eclares Coach Steve Farrell x Coach Farrell states that a large number of men have signed up for next Saturday's inter-class track meet on the chart in Dr. May's ofi. Competition in the different events promises to be keen, especially in the Fresh-Soph relay. "Red" Donnelly is the only "M" man in school this year, and he will probably be seen in the mile with Captain Sedgewick, on the night of the meet. Waterman gym will be closed on Washington's birthday so it will be necessary for all candidates compet- ing in Saturday's contest to finish up their training today. The entry list will be open until Saturday morning and anyone who has not signed up yet may do so by seeing Coach Farrell or putting their name on the chart in Dr. May's office at Waterman gym.
