A. C.'s varsity basketeers will come here Friday night with high hopes .of relieving the sting of the football defeat by running up a large score against the Wolverine quintet. Rumors from the Aggie camp show that the M. A. C. followers 'expect u pleasant surprise from their wel bal- anced team. Last Saturday night the Green and White team wasnosed out of a vic- tory over the crack Grand Rapids "Y" quintet by a single point, bu; during the game they showed a superiority over the "Y" team in clever team- work. Captain Murray is the only veteran on the team this fall but the other men are the choice of last season's reserve squad. Murray was the in- dividual' star in the Grand Rapids contest, bagging several goals trom the field and making seven fouls out of nine attempts. Brigham at left forward is his able running mate and these two men form a combination which may be difficult for the Wolverine guards to stop. The center position is handled by Higbie, while Kurtz and Garret are the strong; defense men. Both of these men dis- played marked ability in cornering in the Grand Rapids forwards during the "Y" game. Coach Gautier has developed a de- fense system which kept the furniture' city boys worried throughout the game. The Aggie mentor was not sat- isfied with the teamwork of his quin- tet in past games and is drilling stren- uously his players in this phase of the game. The M. A. C. quintet will not be: alone on the, floor when it tackles the Michigan team Friday night as reports state that Aggie fans will ac- company their team to Ann Arbor. Altlhough it is too early to state definitely, the prospects for college rowing seem good for the coming sea- son, despite the stress of the times. As a means of physical development and recreation rowing always held a deserved prominence in college ath- letics, and in these times, when there is pressing need for upbuilding the collegian both from a bodily and men- tal standpoint, the continuance of this sport seems imperative. That this is thoroughly realized by those in charge of athletics at the var- ious colleges, which have sent crews to both Poughkeepsie and New Lon- don in recent years, is shown by the plans to continue rowing, even though in a modified form, during the coming season. There will be both indoor and open water training for the oars- men at Columbia, Cornell, Penn- sylvania, Yale, Harvard, and Syr- acuse. Inter-class and college re- gattas will be held and under cer- tain conditions, there is a possibility of some inter-varsity competition al- though not upon as important a scale as that which marks college rowing in normal times.
