.IL MOST CONFERENCE TEAMS HARD ilT BY DRAFT AND IEN LISTMENTS Chicago, Jan. 3.-Although the war will undoubtedly affect the playing N strength of "some of the teams, the "Big Ten" championship basketball li season will get under way on Jan. 5, with every indication of producing as interesting a race as the 1917 football season. The return of the University of es Michigan to the Western Conference has added a new interest to the wint- be er sport. The Wolverines will clash with practically all of the conference fives. The Northwestern-Wisconsin t game to be played at Evanston, will at be the opening contest of the season. From then until March 13, when Wis- a- consin meets Purdue at Lafayette, the race for the championship will be in of full swing. Est sIllinois Loses Stars Enlistments and graduations have wreckedthe championship teams of Ore Illinois and Minnesota which tied for the title last season. Nearly every ho coach in the conference, in fact, faces zs the task of building a new machine. Purdue, however, appears to have been the most fortunate of all "Big Ten" ng schools. Practically every member of last season's team will be in the line- h up and critics believe the Boilermak- ers have the edge on the champion- -ship. -he Wisconsin Misses Old Coach rot Wisconsin's showing will be watch- Ht ed with interest as the Badgers have 12 always been regarded as a power in :2 the winter game. The team, however, ed will be without the services of Dr. sr Meaningwel, long a prominent figure in western conference basketball, who us has left Wisconsin in order to be- come athletic director at the Universi- ed ty of Missouri. Coach Lawman, who or directed the Indiana team last season, ht, will have charge of this year's Badg- n ers. be The-schedule follows : n: } Jan. 5-Wisconsin vs. Northwestern .l at Evanston. ad Jan. 9-Purdue vs. Illinois at Ur- bana; Michigan vs. Ohio State at Ann ey Arbor; Northwestern vs. Minnesota at Evanston. pe Jan. 14-Illinois vs. Minnesota at ra Urbana. ns Jan. 18 - Mchigan vs. Indiana at er Ann Arbor. n Jan. 19.- Chicago vs. Michigan at el Chicago; Purdue vs. Indiana at Lafay- ette; Illinois vs. Wisconsin at Urbana; Minnesota vs. Iowa at Minneapolis; Northwestern vs. Ohio State at Evans- ton., Jan. 25-Minnesota vs. Michigan at Ann Arbor. ld Jan. 26-Michigan vs. Northwestern at Ann Arbor; Wisconsin vs. Purdue at Madison; Chicago vs. Minnesota at Chicago. n- Jan. 28-Iowa vs. Purdue at Iowa -e- City. he Feb. 1-Indiana vs. Ohio State at Bloomington. k- Feb. 2-Wisconsin vs. Minnesota at s- Madison: Chicago vs. Illinois at Chi- rill cago. he Feb. 4-Purdue vs. Ohio State at od Lafayette; Iowa vs. Minnesota at Iowa City. .y- Feb. 9-Illinois vs. Northwester at at Urbana; Chcago vs. Purdue at Lafay- n- ette; Indiana vs. Ohio State at Col- Our 1-4 off, Clothing Sale Of Our Entire and Immense Stocks of KUPPENHEIMER SUITS & OVERCOATS For Men and Young Men Plain-color suits and plain'staple overcoats alone exc epted That includes suits in every good niodel-Trench and Belt Overcoats, Storm Coats, Motor luxurious big ulsters in warm "woolly" fabrics from Scotland, Ireland and England; finest silk lined terfields; Carr's Meltons, fine Vicunas and Montagnac types-the finest money can buy.
