I said a week ago that I did not have in mind any transportation order treating any industry as non- essential, since Priority order number two went as far as it seemed to me wise in dealing with so-called non- essentials by transportation orders. The statement still stands." These were the words of Judge Lov- ett, the war industries board's director of priority, when he denied a traffic re- port that he had issued an order refus- ing cars to automobile concerns. The automobile industry is co- I operating with, the industries board in furthering war production. AMERICA'S ENTRY IN WAR BRINS MUSIC TO ENGLAND London, Nov. 26.-Thanks to the United States' entry into the war,, American music is enjoying a wide vogue in London this fall. Since the concert season and recital opened here there has been scarcely a single impor- tant program without one or two American numbers, and the leader of the Queen's Hall symphony orchestra has just achieved a remarkable suc- cess with an entire program of Amer- ican music. The musical critics view the American invasion with some friendli- ness but not too much enthusiasm. One says, "The American composers seem too anxious to assert their mas- tery of modern technique, to convince us that they know as much about it as anybody else." "The tendency among American composers seems to toward turning out a piece no less elaborate than that of the modern European, rather than to develop on their own lines," an- other says.
