WQMEHN BASKETBALL PLAYERS HOLD PRACTICE IN GYMNASIUMI There was plenty of enthusiasm in the women's senior-sophomore basket ball practice at 4:30 o'clock yester- day afternoon in Barbour gymnasium. Eighteen women reported for play. Leila Wheeler, Marie Macauley, Clar- issa Vyn, and June Brooks, veterans. of the junior team of last year, were present, while Elsie Erley, Hazel Platt, and Edna Daskam represented last year's freshman aggregation. Indications are that competition for team positions will be most strenuous among the seniors this year, as they Seem to possess plenty of good ma- terial. The sophomore squad is in urg- ent need of more forwards, as their star goal throwers of last year are not in school. Although the regular track season does not begin until after Christmas, Coach Steve Farrell has moved his headquarters from Ferry field and has began the work of constructing a war time track team. While the loss of Cross, O'Brien, Car- ioll, Fontanna and several other stars of last year's team is causing the coach some worry at present, Steve is far from being disheartened. There is a abundance of good track material in school and Farrell is expecting every man who has any ability at all to re- port at the gymnasium as soon as pos. sible to get in trim. Following is a list of men who give promise: Mile, Sedgwck, Donnelly and Fuess; two-mile, Meehan and May- nard; half-mile, Larson, Walker and Langley; quarter-mile, Forbs, Stoll and Lombard; 100 yard dash, Zoellin, Thompson and Johnson; shot put, Bak- er; hurdles, Johnson, Beardsley and Kruger; pole vault, Cross; high jump.
