(By Little Californian Will Stack Against Winner of Next Round Up aptain-elect Smith Will From Bench for Time Direct Team First SJust 24 hours before Cornell ap- pears on Ferry field to do battle with Michigan, the Wolverines are confident of success. The fighting spirit which prevailed in the Nebraska tilt two weeks ago a'nd which made the indifferent Michi- gan team look like the best in the country, is again in evidence and the Michigan players who take the field Saturday will be fighting from start to finish. Coach Yost declared yesterday aft- ernoon that his. men were "going over the top after the Red men," and As- sistant-coach Douglass followed Yost's statement with a "and we're going to bring back some scalps." This spirit prevails in the Wolverine camp. The sentiment among the members of the Varsity is that there will be considerable revenge gained Saturday for the defeats administered the Mich- 1gan team in the past few years. In, 1916 Cornell snatched a victory from the Wolve ines when Maulbetsch's, ag- gregation was leading by a big margin and . this defeat along with another which came when Michigan was un- doubtedly superior, will be avenged, according to the Wolverines. Expect 25,000 Crowd The demand for tickets for the Cornell game has far exceeded the ex- pectations of the Athletic association -offlcials and it now appears that out- side of a few tickets returned from Cornell and those held for gate sale, there will be no pasteboards avail- able within a few hours. The at- tendance is going to be close to 25,000 according to all the information ob- tainable. Trainer Harry Tutbtll announced last night that all of the 11 men Yost wants to use at the start of the game against Cornell will be on hand ,In shape to play. Cohn is the only man not in condition and he will Ike ready for Penn. The rest of the players, aside from a few bruises, are in good form. Cornell will start a heavy team also and there will be no material advantage either way. Y., Nov. 8.-Coach Al Sharpe will start with a squad of 21 Cornell gridders for Ann Arbor Friday afternoon. Hoffman, Pendleton, Cross, Nethercott, Carry, Colvin, Ackernicht, Straus, Reuther, Harriman, Swanson, Harris, Schmitt, Eisenbrandt, Miner, Huntington, Thomas, S. Trowbridge, A. B. Trowbridge, Spiegelberg, and Petrie are the men who will make the trip. Van Horn, the Red's- star halfback, is still on the hospital list, but will probably accompany the team and if necessary will get into play to- ward the end of the game. Cross, the man who starred in the Carnegie- Tech game last Saturday, will hold down Van Horn's position. The Cornell warriors do not expect to carry off the bacon, but are confi- dent of holding the Wolverines to a low count. The Reds' line so far this season has been the weakest part of the team and Dr. Sharpe is doing his best to strengthen it by the addition oft beefy men. The loss of Van Horn in the back- field will materially weaken the Ith- arans' attack, but if Cross plays the way he did against the Pittsburg ag- gregatign he will fit well .into the shoes of the sturdy little halfback. Coach Sharpe has been giving his men nothing but light workout all week in an effort to keep the casual- ties as low as possible. Camp Custer Men To Attend Game Under command of General Dick- man the 85th team division from Camp Custer will arrive in Ann Arbor Satur- day on a special train to see the Mich- igan-Cornell game, as .guests of the Athletic Association. They will be ac- companied by five French officers and five English officers, all of whom have seen first line fighting in France. Dispense With Women's League Circus On account of the war relief work which claims the extra time of Michi- gan women, the annual circus of the Women's league will be dispensed with for this year. COACH FAILS TO LOCATE 4 PLUNGING FULBACK, Lack of Dependable Furnishes Anoth-. er Problem for the Yearlings' Mentor All efforts have been given up by the freshman coach to find a plung- ing back. After trying every man on his squad at the full back position Mitchell intends to leave the present backfield intact, Urschell, Usher, Reed, and Bailey. Much time has been spent by the. freshmen in developing a goal kicker and a man to kick off, since Fletcher the regular booter has been disabled. Peocock shows the most promise in starting the ball from the 40-yard line and Usher, Urschell, and MacNilchol are still fighting it out for the right to add the extra point after each touchdown the team scores against the Notre Dame yearlings. Last night was spent in a rehash of the fundamentals of the game. Kick- NOTICE Again we wish to call your attention to the high grz tailoring you can enjoy by having Sam Burchfield & Co. your work.
