The Michigan baseball team, chain-
pions of the western Conference, plays
against Kalamazoo on Ferry field this
afternoon. The proposed reception
for the players last Thursday night
fell through. The Varsity deserves a
real reception today.
Michigan's bunch of title winning
ball tossers are going to put on an
exhibition of baseball as it is play-
ed to win pennants this afternoon,
with kalamazoo furnishing the oppo-
sition, on Ferry field at 3 o'clock.
Lundgren's scrappy men will go'
into the game today in great condition.
The Wolverine diamond mentor eased
up on the players the past two days
and allowed them to stay at home to
catch up in their rest and studies.
The team has not practiced since the
Illinois contest Tuesday.
Saun"ders to ie"
Dutch Saunders, who showed himself
a real pitcher by handing out defeats
to M. A. C. and Ohio State, will prob-
ably start the game for Michigan.
Dutch was scheduled to work against
Camp Custer Wednesday but the
rain cheated him out of his chance for
another victory. lie hasnt worked
for over a week and ought to be
prime.
Lundgren also has Scheidler and
Ruzicka ready for mound duty and it
is rumored that Captain Bob Glenn is
going to surprise everyone some of
these days by walking out on the
field and pitching the sort of ball he
used. to before he shot his armi to
pieces, Lundgren may tot out his
whole hurling corps before the game
is over, just to give the camera men a
chance.
Kala iaoo has not had a real
strong team since Koob left and the
Wolverines ought to have a rather
easy ti me this afternoon.

Bornstein and Munz, the two mein-
hers of the sophomore racquet team,
meet Weiord and lings, the repre-
sentatives of the senior class, this
morning at J o'clock, to determine
which will receive their class numer-
als, and the inter-class championship.
Munz and Bornstein by virtue of
their victories over the freshmen and
juniors, appear to be the more likely
contenders for the title. I lowever,
the seniors have been going good, and
may upset the dope.

lowa university has made a woman,
Mildred Whitcomb, '18, elitor of the
Daily Iowan for next year. Aliss Whit-
comb has been associated with the
lowan for three years in different
positions, and has the honor of being
unanimously elected one of the first
woman editors of any American col-
lege daily.

More than 175 of the 211 cadets
recommended to attend the Fort Sher-
idan summer training camp have been
given their travelling orders. There
were 12 cadets who signified their in-
tentions of not attending the camp.
The required quota will be filled from
the list of alternates, and the men
chosen will be announced as soon as
possible.
Two cadets, proficient in penman-
;ship, are urged to report at the it. 0.
T. C. office in the Natural Science
building today, according to a state-
ment issued from the military olice
yesterday afternoon. There are a
number of non-conniissioned ofiers'
warrants to be given out to the cadets
before they leave the University, and
an excellent writing hand is required
to fill out the blanks.
Make-up classes will be held from
0 to 11 o'clock this morning in Wat-
erman gymnasium. The regular Sat-
urday hike will start at 1:30 o'clock
this afternoon. The cadets will form
in front of Waterman gymnasium.
Raymond V. Smith, '20, and Wil-
1,am C. icks, '20, have passed the
naval marine examinations at Detroit.
They will report for duty about June
8. Five students will leave for De-
troit today to take the physical ex-
aminations for the naval marines.
FARMERETTE UNITS
READY FOR SEASON
Cherries in the Traverse Bay sec-
tion of the state are going to be
picked by numbers of enthusiastic
Michigan women this year. The Uni-
versity units are practically filled with
applications coming in every day.
Supervisors have been engaged, and
plans laid in detail, all ready for the
season to open.
A unit of 15 with two supervisors
will work through the cherry season,
about four or five weeks ,at Old As-
sion. T he whole summer will he
spent on a farm on Traverse Bay by
a unit of 10 with one supervisor.
A large unit, comprising 85 women,
swvel supervisors, a cook, and a
nurse, is to go to the large Morgan
farm. In this unit, military canteen
service will be adopted and some
other features of military organiza-
tion. All units will live in a camp,
and be entirely independent of the
farm life outside of working hours.
A large amount of 'interest in the
project has been shown by people
throughout the state. More demands
came for workers than could be sup-
plied, in spite of the fine response
that was made by the University
women and their friends, a few out-
side women having been admitted to
the units upon recommendation.
The season will probably open near
July 1. Information may be had
frein Miss Louise Potter at the office
of the dean of women, who will also
receive further applications.
BAKER PLANS TO DEFEAT HUNS

used against the Germans in such
quantities that the Huns will be de-
feated at their own game, according
to the present plans of Secretary of
War Baker.
The American forces have not used
deadly gases up to the present time,
but the policy has been reversed.
C'hemists are now at work on new
poisonous gases, and it is reported
that results have been highly satis-
factory. It is thought that the first
