The tournament, hosted by Flossmoor Country Club in Illinois, gave Ohio State its first Big Ten win of the season. Mich- gan recorded a 967 overall. "We put ourselves in a good position for the conference qualifiers," coach Kathy Teichert said. Monday, the Wolverines had consid- erable trouble as fatigue began to set in from the previous day. "The course was extremely long, ad the greens were really fast," Teichert said. Sharon Park led Michigan with a score of 238. The freshman from Lexington, Ky. placed eighth in the tournament. Fellow first-year player Katy Loy is among fourfreshmen who ate leadingthe team. Loy, an Ann Arbor native, shot an 81 in the second round. Another fresh- man, Sarah Lindholm, received top 20 'honors. Captain Shannon McDonald placed 16th as the onlyasenior on the squad this year. She shot a 242, even with a rela- tively high third-round score. Junior Ashley Williams played well with a score of252. "It was a challenging course, and was super long," she said. Fourth-freshman Wendy Westfall also turned in a 252, for 50th place This tournament included 93 women from every team in the Big Ten. Indiana and Iowa State rounded out the top-three. This weekend, Michigan will have another chance to beatpowerhouse teams like Ohio and Iowa, as Indiana hosts another Big Ten tournament. "We were tied for fourth going into the third round, so realistically we are right on track.," Teichert said. "The team is young, but strong and we'll be looking to improve ouroverall game this weekend." WHITE continued from page 10 big plays against, but there have been big plays for. Last season, Michigan intercepted eight balls. The Wolverines are just one shy of that number already. The coverage has been better, but the defensive backs also owe a bit of thanks to the defensive line. Opposing teams' quarterbacks have had less time to find receivers because of Michigan's pressure. As a result, the secondary doesn't have to keep track of the receivers as long. That adds up to better play. Question No. 3- Will the freshman quarterback be able to lead the team? Scott Dreisbach has done exactly what you would expect a freshman quarterback to do - he's been inconsistent. But he is also undefeated. Dreisbach proved without a doubt in the Virginia comeback that he would be able to lead the team. Now he just has to become a little less streaky. As the old adage goes, when he's good, he's very, very good, but when he's bad, he's overthrowing receivers, While he misses his share of throws and he has a nice touch. Dreisbach has improved with every game and you can expect that to continue throughout the season. There you have it, everything you need to remember about the Michigan football team after a weekend off. Well, there is one more thing. On Saturday, the Wolverines are the ones wearing blue.
