Tennessee 27-9 - Pistons can't keep pace with Indiana Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS - Reggie Miller finished with 24 points and the Indiana Pacers finished with the highest point total against Detroit this season in a 125-107 victory Sunday. Miller, the league's leading free thrower, improved his percentage to .917 by converting all 11 of his at- tempts. The Pacers were 34-for-37 from the. line. Detlef Schrempf came off the bench for 23 points and 13 rebounds, while LaSalle Thompson had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Williams, who helped limit Isiah Thomas to 11 points on 5-for-18 shooting, had 15 points and 12 assists. Vinnie Johnson scored 24 points for the Pistons, whose previous high for points allowed was 122 by Charlotte on Feb. 22. The Pacers, who had faltered in the second half in losing their last two games to Chicago and the New York Knicks, took the lead with 13 consecutive points in the third quar- ter. Thompson hit a 17-footer to ig- nite the streak, leaving Indiana be- hind 64-62 with 7:05 remaining in the third quarter. Miller's three- point play put Indiana ahead to stay 65-64, with 6:52 remaining and the Pacers went on to lead 73-64 with 5:10 left. The Pacers, who opened a two- game advantage over New York in their battle for the seventh playoff position in the Eastern Conference, went on to take an 80-69 lead on a 3- pointer by Chuck Person - who had 20 points. The loss cut Detroit's lead oven Milwaukee to a half-game in the race for the No. 3 spot in the confer- ence. Bill Laimbeer, who had 19 points and 14 rebounds, pulled the Pistons back with two straight baskets, and John Salley's basket left Detroit trailing 80-75 with 1:53 remaining in the period. But Indiana reopened the margirm to 87-77 at the end of the third quar- ter, and Detroit never pulled closer than eight in the last period. William Bedford, making his- first start of the season with Mark Aguirre sidelined by back spasms, had 13 points in the first half to give the Pistons a 57-53 lead. How- ever, he scored only one point in the second half.
