Ringo Starr & the All
Starr Band
Ringo Starr & the All Starr
Band
Ryko
It's very refreshing to know that
a bunch of well-known musicians
can get together when not under the
auspices of some charitable organiza-
tion. It's also quite satisfying to see
such a collection of superstars
recording in a completely pressure-
free environment, allowing for some
of rock's biggest names to not have
to worry about making any critic-
pleasing ground-breaking statements
with their music. Every now and
then, everyone's got to get their ya-
yas out. This is the groundwork
which not only allows Bob Dylan to
sing "My Baby" with the Wilburys,
but also gives justification for the
release of this new Ringo and the
All Starrs record.
During the summer of 1989,
Ringo decided that he wanted hit the
road. Be honest, now - who really
wants to see 90 minutes of Ringo?

For the show, he assembled a
scrappy collection of some of the
most historically significant back-
up musicians available anywhere,
each receiving time to do their own
material. The actual Ringo-Starr
songs on this collection, such as "It
Don't Come Easy" - and
"Photograph," benefit greatly from
the supporting performances of Nils
Lofgren, Clarence Clemmons, Jim
Keltner, and the other musicians.
Ironically, those tunes are what seem
to be filler when placed alongside of
Dr. John's "Iko Iko," Levon Helm,
Rick Danko, and Dr. John singing
the classic "The Weight," and Billy
Preston's "Will It go Round in Cir-
cles."
One big question mark about this
release is the exclusion of "With.A
Little Help From My Friends." A
version of it recorded by this ensem-
ble was released on the Wilbury's
"Nobody's Child" single, but it still
could have been also placed on this
disc. Then again, it would be hard to
imagine the members of the band
harmonizing on the final "friends!"
But it would still be a fitting
addition, for without the help of any

Semester or a Year Abroad
at The American University of Paris
Lying virtually in the shadow of the Eiffel
Tower in the 7th arrondissement, The
American University of Paris combines the
abundant resources of a four-year college
with Paris' riches as cultural and intellec-
tual capital of the new Europe. The art,
architecture, cosmopolitan ambiance, and
political significance as headquarters for
numerous international organizations
makes Paris an incomparable primary text
for students at the University.
Of the 1000 students from over 60 differ-
ent countries, 50% are U.S. citizens and
15% graduates of French lyc6es. In the past
academic year, visiting students comprised
13% of the student population and came
from 89 colleges and universities. Housing
assistance is guaranteed.
Majors in: Art History, Comparative
Literature, Computer Science, European
Studies, French Studies, International
Affairs, International Business Adminis-
tration, International Economics, and Fine
Arts in conjunction with Parsons School
of Design, Paris. Work in the majors can,
for students in the Institute for French
Studies in Paris program (IFSP) with strong
French language proficiency, also be com-
bined with courses at the Institut d'Etudes
Sociales, Institut National des Langues et
Civilisations Orientales, Universiti de
Paris IV-Sorbonne, and Institut d'Etudes
