A PHOTOGRAPHER'S VIEW

NUNS ON BEDLOE'S ISLAND, NEW YORK

- SERVANT GIRL, ALEXANDRIA

ABOUT THE
PHOTOGRAPHER
The photographs on this page
were taken by C. G. Christo-
fides, instructor in French, De-
partment of Romance Lang-
uages.
A relative newcomer to pho-
tography, Christofides has done
work in his three years in the
field that has won him national
and international prizes. His
pictures have hung in national
shows and Leica magazine is
featuring his work in a forth-
coming issue.
Christofides, who does his
own developing and printing in
most cases, uses both Rollei-
flex and Leica cameras.
A deep admirer of such mas-
ters as Henri Cartier-Bresson
and W. Eugene Smith of Life
magazine, he is particularly
inclined to the "decisive mom-
ent' photograph.
One of Christofides' favorite
subjects, as the picture taken
on Bedloe's Island indicates, is
that of nuns. Another picture
of nuns, taken in the Toledo
art museum, has been exhibited
In several photography shows.
The servant girl in Alexand-
ria was taken last summer
while Christofides was travel-
ing in Europe, as was the Paris
picture.
