N. Scott, head of' the Rhet- orie department, who sailed recently for Europe, has landed in England, where he will attend a Conference in the Problems of English at London, which is attracting delegates from the chief universities in the Unite Kingdom. Thedelegates, among them Profes- sor Scott, representing the University, will consider-important problems: the aims and methods of Epglish instruc- tion, the means of promoting research and the publicity of this work, the l bringing together of a closer relation- Iship between teachers, and. considera- tions of qualitiesfor the new Ph.D. degree. The sessions are being held at the University of London July 6 and the two following days. Professor Scott, who is accompanied by his family, will return about August 15. The Screen AT THE ARCADE Claire Whitney in "Mothers of Men" will be presented at the Arcade today for the last time. It was produced by Edward Jose, whose work as a pro- ducer is known throughout the coun- try. In "Mothers of Men" he has achieved not only a production beauti- ful but one in which is found the per- fect recording of every human emo- tion. Tomorrow and Saturday the Arcade I Vill offer Marjorie Rambeau in "The f Fortune Teller." Miss Rambeau made a hit on the stage in this same *o- Cuction. The picture was directed by Albert Capellani, one of the leading e irectors of the motion picture world. Miss- Rambeau plays the part of the young and beautiful wife of Horatio Browfing, scientist, and 'believes in the superstition that cards reveal the future. Her jealous husband, occu- pied with, his scientific researches, ' scoffs at her only pastime,. but Renee: braves his displeasurstbyreading the cards whenever the opportunity offers. H ow the ace of spades foretells a. sudden change in the home of the scientist, and the effect it has on his beautiful young wife, is dramatically foretold in this feature.
