To President 'Burton is given a fourth phase through. which to bring Michigan, succeeding in which he will go'down into'history as one of the University's greatest executives. ATTEND THE RECEPTION Every student of thei 'Summer Session should avail himself of the opportunity to meet President and Mrs. Burton at their reception Friday after- noon in Alumni Memorial hall. Not only does the student owe it to President Burton, who should be greeted by every individual in the Summer Session at this first public reception, but he also.owes it to himself. It has been said that such meetings as these with the intellectuals of the University are the things that make college life worth while,-are the -principal ways in which the student improves him- self. Thef are, opportunities seldom given to the average person, and when they are offered, they are hardly to be overlooked. It is one of these rare chances that presents itself tomorrow at the invita- tion of the new executive and his wife ; a privilege that comes within a day after his entrance upon his duties. As one of the peers of American education ' and as a man who will guide the destinies of the ,Univetsity for years to come, President Burton stands out as a character well worth knowing. a man Iwho commands the adm*ation and respect of all., 'or anyone to pass by this opportunity-a chance .to meet and shake hands with one of the leading educators of the country and his wife-would be the 'greatest folly, and a mistake which few Michigan students will make. He was about 55 years old. He looked 70. His shoulders were rounded and stQoped. His Bair Was thin and gray. His face was drawn and hauntingly eager. "There's been a wreck on the Elgin electric," he said. "I've made some -snapshots of it. I brought them' with ipe. And I thought I might give you some details. Mybrother wasope of the victims. 'It's' been a 'pretty badt experience for me--" 'His -voice began weakly to trail off into halting syllables. "You'-l have to excuse me,' he said, in confusion. He was very pale. "My head aches. There's a pain shootingIe put his hand to his bosom and slid down in his chair. He didn't weigh much. A couple of reporters carried him into another room and laid him on a table. A physician was called. The sick man re- vived. The physician made a quick diagnosis. k "You've got apoplexy," hesa-"Yuv okd too, hard. You're not old, but you've made your body pay too much for what you've got out of life. The only way you can save yourself is to stop work and rest. If you don't rest another attack will be the end." "I don't think I can do that."; The sick man's voice was little better than a whisper. His words came heavily. "I have to keep going. If I stop work-well, my pay stops." - The physician's eyes narrowed. "What kind of a, place do you work in ?" he asked. "I work,"*said the, other, painfully.."in the- ita the Ujnited States postoffice." - The Chicago Tribune. Summer School Students! Greetings.
