I NE c Second 13rainstorm rine Prize-Fight Fiend two pugilists strictly speaking, but I'd hate to lose so much every day, I mean the dough I could have won in that four handed penny ante game which I missed 'cause the ed made me see those two in Toledo. It used to be all right in Toledo before- the middle of May, but now I'd just as soon be in the Sahara. I (F. G. I.) ain't it funny what a peculiar bunch human gang is. You hear the ple goin' around shoutin' and aning about the high cost of beef I meat and this bird Rickard comes ig arid qffers Jess Willard 100,000 oleons to jump into a fight ring the fourth and exhibit his hulk to public. And the ever sympathetic, ily-buncoed mass pays 60 plunks to see some 400 pounds of beef -ce about for 36 minutes. don't want to philosophize but I e to see the public buncoed all of time. Today his nibs, the hon- ble ed came to me and asked me to te a line of dope to show up some these seise birds and put the easy_ n' public on the path to some soft gh. Vell, strictly speakin' I ain't in for a final joy ride, in the first' ce, and again I hate to add to the ries of our much abused com- ion, the common herd. 4 ut, on the other, side, the ed says mue, says he, "You gotta do some- L' on this paper or you get the see?" Well, all I cgn say is that. ish I was an ed. wop warblers which you hear but can't understand, 'cause nobody does, ain't bad, and no one is hurt by what you say except the guy which you write about. But you gotta be care= ful, as it were, so that the next guy which shaves you ain't a friend of the singer. But when it comes to losin' other. people's money I cut in with an ex- cuse. I know how it is to have some other dude lose your hard earned ,shekels for you. I listened to Ring Lardner chirp once, when he picked a winner, strictly speakin', and say, listen you to me, there ain't no other bird in this universe which can com- pare with Ring when it comes to pick- in' something with the "lost" label on it, except Hughie Fullerton, and when one of those guys picks a winner, then it's time for Bryan to stop drink- in' grape high balls. t As I was sayin', strictly speakin', I went to see the champ and Jack go thru their stunts. Well, I ain't brag- gin' of course, but I know a guy which would give a good account of himself with either of those two fellows, and I ain't as big of either one of them. Well, I ain't kickin' about contrib- ating to, the general coffers of the Big Clothing Sal NOW ON ding out a line4 of dope on these B a th i-ng 1 S u i't's WE HAVE THE TWO PIECE KIND WITH THE WHITE BELT GEO. J. MOE, "Sport Shop" Naturally, I ain't the kind to knock anybody but when I saw Willard and Dempsey, they none of them had any- thing but a couple of gloves. Why, in Willard's camp, strictly speakin', hardly no action took place. Nobody was knocked loose from the floor, like I epected and Willard was so slow that Monaghan could of hit Jess with a ring post, only Walter was too grog- gy to even lamp one. Well, we couldn't see any improvement in Wil- lard. He eats as much as ever and he's just as big and good natured. So after talkin' with Jess for a time we couldn't help feelin' sorry for Demp- sey, for we don't think Dempsey has got a chance against the big boy when they step into the ring. Dempsey ought not even go into the ring. Wil- lard is a convincing talker. Well, we didn't bring our machine with us to Toledo, strictly speakin' because we had heard all hotels were filled and garage -men were getting three smackers per seat per capita in vacant buses over night. We hated to hire our car out for use as an im- promptu hotel and we hated to pay the three smackers per, so we slept on the beach. It was cheaper and safer. Besides I like all healthy ex- ercises. All this leads me to say, as it were, that we had to therefore, walk to Dempsey's camp. Well, when they said that Dempsey was trainin' at Maumee Bay, we had no idea he1 was trainin' in the bay. I asked a bug on the shore among the crowd, who was gonna stage the new vaude- ville act of trained seals. He looked at me and wanted for me to show my ignorance I guess, by blushing, as it were, 'cause what I thought was a seal was only none other than Demp- sey swimming in the bay. Well, sir, I didn't get a ring side seat for my half rock, and when two dark birds climbed in the ring I asked if they was stagin' a prelim as it were, until Dempsey got dried. Well, again they showed my ignorance when they told me the white fellow was Demp- sey. I looked among the seconds for Jack and some dude near by whisper- (Continued on Page Six) Also a special lot at 20 per d. off. FRESH RASPBERRY SUNDAE CANTALOUPE SUNDAE Coolest Place in the City 1 7Nnr 709,N.University REPORTS ON JULY 4 BOUT Reports on the Willard-Demp- sey bout will be received round by round at the Knights of Columbus rooms over Calkins' drug store. No admission will be charged to those wishing to hear the reports. The preliminaries, as well as the big fight, will be covered, begin- ning at 10 o'clock Friday morning. i A number of these dresses formerly higher priced, will be sold Saturday at this low figure. The dresses themselves are unusually fine values, and the sale comes at the very time women are wanting these cool sum- mer frocks most! Both light and dark patterned voiles are included in this collection, but the 4emphasis is on the darker shades, which are just as cool and far .more practical than those of lighter hue! One frock in blue and, white foulard patterns, is trimmed with collar, cuffs, and bands of dark blue taffeta. A demure frock of gray and white block checked voile has sleeves wide at the wrist with crisp white organdie collars and cuffs. It is trim- med with the oddest pearl buttons, fastened on with wisps of the goods. A blue and white dotted voile dress has rather large green coin dots scattered over its surface. Simple, but oh so effective, is a frock developed in the tiniest of black and white diagonal checks, with a narrow black tie of gros grain ribbon! White Skirts at $~. - They are not "just white skirts"-they are white skirts with individuality. For instance can't you imagine one of fine white gabardine which buttons all the way down one ,side with large pearl buttons, and has a long slit- pocket on the other side? Its belt is a queer tucked affair such as you seldom see. Then there is another skirt which opens to the side front with dozens of tiny pearl buttons. It too has a slit pocket on the other side. Hem- stitching is used in many interesting ways, and there is no end of clever designing shown in the treatment of pockets! Pique and gabardine are the materials. qg- i 1 I ,, CHAS. W.
