Madge Kennedy will be seen today
and tomorrow at the Arcade in "The
Service Star." It is not a war play,
but rather a drama of the national
draft. Miss Kennedy's role is that of
Marilyn March, a girl of plain appear-
ance and humdrum life whose wealthy
relatives keep her in the background.
Thrilled by the war, the girl envies
the women doing war work, each with
a sweetheart or a husband at the front.
When she announces that she is a
war bride, as other fictional heroines
have done, she is regarded almost as
a celebrity. In the result of her de-
ception, however, audiences will find
their greatest surprise. Marilyn is
sought out by the mother of the man
whose wife she pretends to be, who,
instead of questioning Marilyn's story,
takes the girl to her heart and into her
home. Against her will the self-styled
widow is forced to play her part to the
bitter end.
Madge Kennedy has proved that she
can play dramatic roles equally as well
as comedy, and this picture is said to
be one of the best in which she has
appeared to date.
