PAGEFOUR THE WOLVERINE THE DETACHMENT NEWS 4o Acres Farmed By Association "Work or fight,' 'is the phrase that is ringing across the country at this time. The Athletic association has adopted the watchword and is doing its bit to defeat the kaiser. Accord- ing to Mr. Bartelme, director of ath- letics, every available piece of ground in the possession of the Athletic as- sociation, has been utilized for raising food stuffs. There are about 40 acres of land un- der cultivation, but Mr. Thomas, the groundkeeper, states that the crops this year will not be nearly as good as was expected. The 40 acres has been divided into 15 acres of hay, 8 acres of oats, 9 acres of corn, and 7 acres of wheat. They expect 40 bushels of oats this year, compared with 65 bushels last year. The corn and wheat crops are unsettled, the dry weather which we have had, practic- ally ruining these crops. All of the wheat, and part of the corn will be SILGRP1MUSTJBE ! Tear, Gasitis SOME MORE SMALL TOWN STUFF (From the Swindle Sheet) While the new road roller and scar- ifier was doing some work on Packard street yesterday, a big Detroit car came down the street at the usual high speed and hit the heavy mnchine, but did not knock it off the road. The electric car was slowed up, but it was going so fast it could not stop quick enough. No damage was done to the machine, but the fender of the car was pretty well smashed. Gosh, just imagine what would have happened to the "big Detroit car" if the famous Ann Arbor sacrifier had been a Ford. "Yell, Ye Yankees, Yell"-Headline, 120 Florentine type, Tonopah (Nev.) Bonanza. Leave it to the Yanks, they are doing that and then some. The way the Allies are running through the Germans on the Marne, reminds one of the old adage, "The worst' is coming." She expects to be sent to France for active ser- vice very soon. sold. This year only one and three- quarters tons of hay are expected to be produced, to the three tons of last year. Probably three or four loads of the hay will be sold. The straw from the wheat and the oats will also be sold. Part of the grain raised is re- served to feed the live stock now own- ed by the Athletic association. HOSTESS NOSE ISIIOGS Monday, July 22 J. H. Ualeye, Grand Rapids; Mrs. C. C.
