( A I I ONION'DVILING AKSPHOODESS Expect Building to be Under Rooff Within 26 Weeks; Tower to be 100 Feet High ALUMNI INSPECT STRUCTURE Within 26 weeks the new Union building will be under roof and the immense tower, standing some 100 feet above the surface of State Street, will offer an imposing birds-eye view of the campus buildings and the entir city. The erection of the $1 000,000 club-house will also mark the com pletion of years of industrious andl patient planning of one of Michigan' finest buildings. Although the inner decorations and fixtures will not be finished or hardly be begun by that time, the major part of construction will be completed by early fall, and it is hoped that the new Union structure will be in readi- ness for active use and service not many weeks after school has opened for the term of 1917-1918. jAccording to the present ceunatre the first floor will be completed pith- in several weeks, and it is expected that each of the remaining floor will be completed in about four weeks. Another feature of the building will be the section set aside for campus activity offices. and an assembly room. In , addition to this there will be billiard IT Hhalls, bowling alleys, a barber sho, and elaborate reading rooms. Center of Student Activities Upon completion, the new Union building is expected to harborall tn- dent activities and will be the center of student life, where the students can gather for their daily conferences. Maynard and William Streets At the present time the total amount of money subscribed to the Michigan Union fund amounts to $788,465.26, thus making $211,534.74 still needed to complete the fund. The amount paid in of the subscriptions up to the prey- ent time is $398,155.26. Although the war has slackened the intensity of the campaign and the general inter- eat shown to some extent, those in charge believe the total amount will be reached and subscribed for before long.
