N. Scott Three additional courses in news- paper writing will ha' offered next year, according to Prof. F. N. Scott, head of the rhetoric department. All will be extensions of former one-se- nester courses to a full year's work. semester will be allowed in some of the advanced courses for work of merit done under the supervision of members of the department, for the campus papers and magazines. The aim of the extension is to go more thoroughly into the study of the newspaper as an institution deserv- ing to be better understood and ap- preciated by the public, as well as to give those who intend to enter the journalistic field as much help as pos- sible both in theory and practice. A bulletin is being published and will be distributed in about two weeks describing the changes and giving in general an advised program of study for those specializing in the following lines: History, Government and Poli- tics; Economics and Sociology; Re- viewing, Dramatic Art, Musical Crit- icism, and technical Journalism. U. R. Librarian to Tell of Rivers Mr. S. L. Ranck, of Grand Rapids, will give an illustrated lecture to-j morrow at 8 p. m. on "Michigan Riv- ers." Mr. Ranck is the librarian at Grand Rapids and for several years has been one of the lecturers on the University Library course.
