LAWS DEFEAT ENGINEERS
IN FIRST GAME OF SEASON.
Arnold, for Laws, Keeps Hits Scatter-
ed While Labadie Stars With
Wagon Tongue.
In the opening game of the depart-
ment league yesterday afternoon the
laws defeated the engineers 9 to 7. Ar-
nold, pitching for the laws, kept the
hits well scattered, while Labadie at
third did stellar work at bat, getting
a two base hit, a three base hit, and a
home run in his three times at bat.
Owing to the delay in starting the
game only five innings were played.
The next game will be played next
Saturday between the laws and med-
