First of Summer Baseball Games is Played ini the Ra. South Ferry Field was the scene of a desperate encounter between the Engineers and Lits this morning, in which the knights of the shop swam home with the long end of a 6 to 5 score, The game, despite the weather, was full of thrills, a real Ty Cobb home run by Brodie, of the Lits, and the uphill fight of the bridge-builders being the features. The school teachers started with a rush in the first inning, collecting two counters from as many hits, and hold- ing down their opponents the other half. In the second inning neither side scored, although the engineers made a good bid, filling the bags, but were unable to shove one across, the third man dying in a dash for the plate. The third inning was full of thril- lers, the lits starting off with another brace of runs, one being the afore- mentioned home run. In the second half, the engineers again filled the bags, with none out, and the lit pitcher obliged by forcing in two runs. Blake then batted his team into a tie at four all, by a two bagger to center. Nothing daunted, the lits collected another tally to start the fourth, but the engineers per one Schaeffer, came back with two, winning the game which was called on account of the storm. After crucifying the umpire, the teams arranged a second match on Thursday afternoon at four o'clock. Any students desiring to enroll under the banner of either department should call the manager of the respective teams, Lits, Brodie, 1314. Engineers, Blake, 1628-L. The laws are also to have a team in the field next week.
