According to the Detroit Journal, Billy Wasmund is still having a little excitement, even if football is a little out of season. As most of the summer students probably know, Wasmund play- ed quarter for Michigan, last year, and it was due largely to his efforts that the championship came where it be- onged. The story in the Journal is as follows: The Detroit athlete is working as a civil engineer for Geo. H. Fuller & Co. on a skycraper is Chattanooga. A drunken laborer was interfering with work arouid the structure when Was- mund undertook to escort him off the premises. A fight started and the labor- er was getting the worst of it, when he suddenly pulled a knife. Before the combatants could be sep- arated Wasmund received five wounds. Covered from head to foot with blood, he was carried to a physician's office. It was necessary to take too stitches i the wounds. His condition is not serious, but he will probably be forced to give'up thought of coaching this fall. He had accepted a position at a Texas insti- tution. Wasmund's parents live at 441 Elm- wood avenue. Before attending Michi- gan he was the star athlete at Eastern high school. From Eastern he went to Lafayette, remaining there one year. Michigan university saw him next, where he starred as a quarterback for three years. BOTANISTS DISCOVER MANY SPECIMENS GOOD TO EAT. A large number of students in the botany department, accompanied by their instructors, made their last Saturday excursio ofthetsummer session last week. They left town at 9 a. n. on the Ann Arbor for Mud Lake, in the vi- cinity of Whitmore. The students found an ample supply of huckleberry bushes on the bog and a good deal of time was spent in stripping these bushes of their fruit. Some apple trees were also encountered and the botanizers made a special study of the fruit of these trees, laying emphasis on the taste. What little time was left was spent on subjects a little more educational per- haps, even if less pleasant. Big oxford sale at Amand and For- sythe. 11-12-13 Rooms for , Lady Students.
