59 THE MICHIGAN DAILY Minors Provide Many Major League Players apiece with only Stone having been effective. The New York Yankees appar- ently made a good move in bring- ing up Eli Grba from Richmond of the International League. So did the Chicago Cubs, who plucked southpaw Art Ceccarelli from Fort Worth of the American Assn. Grba, a righty, beat the White Sox 6-4 in his only start while Ceccarelli, who was only 4-7 with Fort Worth, has won two games for the Cubs, one a. shutout over Cincinnati. He has yet to lose. The pitching-weak Reds, with only Don Newcombe able to go the distance consistently, got a route-going Job from Jay Hook last Saturday. Hook, who beat the Cubs 5-1, was recalled from Se- attle of the Pacific Coast League. The Cleveland Indians also dipped into the Coast League, promoting veteran outfielder El- mer Valo and pitcher Larry Locke. Valo is one-for-five as a pinch-hitter and Locke's record is 1-1. Feather Wins Race MACKINAC ISLAND (AP) - An Illinois yawl on her maiden voy- age won the Chicago to Mackinac Yacht Race yesterday on the basis 'of corrected time. Although the 32-foot Feather took 63 hours 48 minutes and 3 seconds to make the 333-mile cruise up Lake Michigan, her handicap made her corrected time 51 hours 9 seconds - best in the fleet of 73 boats. The brand new Class D boat, which an observer said looked like "an oversized dinghy" in the line of ships that stretched from this resort island in the straits of Mackinac, had been delivered by a Florida boat builder to own- er W. J. Peacock of Evanston, Ill., only two days before Saturday's start of the race. Her winning time, however, was almost 20 hours off the record set in 1911 by the schooner Amorita. First across the finish line early yesterday was Ramon Brotz' 87- foot Sabre, sailing out of Sheboy- gan, Wis. The Sabre, one of the largest yachts in the race, took 61 hours 4 seconds to finish. Her corrected time 'was 63 hours 33 minutes 5 seconds. Chicago yachts won all the other divisions. The Taltonah, sixth boat to cross the finish line, was the Class A winner with a corrected time of 54 hours 48 'minutes 55 seconds. Her actual, time was 62:02.29. The Class B winner was Barb with elapsed and corrected times of 62:26.42 and 52:47.31. Aura was Class C winner with an elapsed time of 63:11.46 cor- rected to 52:47.31. Her actual time was 63:34.58. There was one minor mishap in the race. The Hornet, owned by Walter Heimichem of Chicago, ran aground on rocks 35' ,miles from the finish line. She was pulled free by the Coast Guard and finished the race under power. Ideal weather provided a pic- ture finish to the race although the fleet had been slowed out of Chicago by light winds. i I e 1, f a erY .!
