FORMER THEATRE - This tent housed the Stratford Shakespearian Festival until the completion of the new building in 1957. It
contained three-and-one-half tons of canvas with a 16-tier concrete foundation. It was used for the festival from 1953.until last
year, and held over 1300 people. The original stage and tierseating has been retained in the new building, which was constructed on
the same site.

The Stratford Music Festival,
additional exhibitions, a four-week
Film Festival and a permanent
theatre were innovations of the
1955 season.
In the 1957 winter season, the
Stratford Festival launched its
first touring company.
