FIRST IN SERIES: Indian Dance Team To Perform July 19 Colorful Snail Collection Featured by 'U' Museums ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO JOIN Michigan's Largest VFW Club invites you to- Bhaskar and Company with Sasha, internationally reknown dance team, will perform at 8 p.m., July 19, in Hill Auditorium. Bhaskar and his company marked their formal debut a year ago in a New York recital. Bhas- kar performed his well known series "The World in Dance" to a 'full house at Brooklyn Academy of Music. His performance proved there is a body of foreigners xho have learned the intricacies of some of India's complicated dance move- ments. Bhaskar was the only Indian in his troupe. Most noteworthy of his American personnel was Sasha, Bhaskar's partner. Sasha seems to understand Bhaskar's basic rhythm and complements it always with taste. . Bhaskar, son of the head of the Fine Arts Department at Madras University, is exceedingly popular in India, Bombay, Cal- cutta, and Madras. He can entend his leg at will, collapse his body into a perfect arc indefinitely; he can balance, on his knees and touch the back of his head with the soles of his feet. Bhaskar can undulate his en- tire body as a snake. Besides Bhaskar's dancing abil- ity he works out his own choreog- raphy and designs costumes which are breathtaking in sekuins and brilliants. -Daly-Eric Arnold . . . opens lecture series PROF. VAN BODENGRAVEN Bodengraven Opens t alks Prof. Paul Van Bodengraven, chairman of the Department of Music Education at New York University, lectured on "The Fab- ulous Future of Music Education," in Angell Hall yesterday. His talk opened a series of 10 leptures to be sponsored by the University's School of Music. A collection of tree snails is cur- rently on display in the foyer of University Museums Building. Colorful examples of tree snails are from Haiti, Cuba, and south- ern Florida, and the Philippines. Some of the examples were sealed in floating trees cast ashore in Florida. They're found in islands of hardwood trees called "hammocks". Another feature is an interest- ing variation of shells. These shells consist of a variety of col- ors, forms, and textures. The focal point of the exhibi- tion, "Shells of the Sea, the Land, and Fresh Water, "is some cameo work carved on a large snail shell. The exhibition remaining through the Summer Session has a smaller display from the Mu- seums' collections. This display has eggs which were produced by a large South American snail. The so-called cats'-eyes in the exhibit are really the cover of openings of certain marine shells.
