THE MICHIGAN DAILY TU Parker of Lions pits in Surprise Move Miss Berg Captures Tam Golf CHICAGO (R)-Patty Berg, the 39-yr.-old perennial front-finish- er, shot a cool one-over par 77 yesterday to defeat Fay Crocker by two strokes in a playoff for the "World" golf championship at Tam O'Shanter. Miss Berg, winning the "World" crown for women pros for the fourth time after taking the All- American sideshow of the Tam meet last week for the fifth time, collected top swag of $6,000. Miss Crocker, 37-yr.-old former U. S. Women's Open champion who comes from Montevideo, Uru- guay, settled for $2,000. The payoff, richest in women's golf, boosted Patty into the money winning lead of the Ladies Pro- fessional Golf Assn., with a total of $15,768 for the year. Miss Crocker took second place with $10,796. Joustled from number one to number three in the reshuffling of the money winners was Mickey Wright with $9,963. Patty went into a two-stroke lead on the fifth hole and never was behind, although Miss Crock-, er rammed in a 35-ft. putt on the 8th hole for a birdie. But the rough and a dubbed shot cost her a double bogey 7 on the ninth for a five-over-par 41 at the turn. Miss Berg was out in 38 and relentlessly opened a six - stroke gap on the nextthree holes. She three-putted the 17th and overshot the 18th green, finishing with 39. Miss Crocker parred for 38.
