Students trying to beat the heat
this summer will find many lakes
in the area offering opportunities
for fishing, swimming and picnic-
1ng.
The State is now developing a
large recreational area north of
Dexter which will greatly improve
present facilities although it is
only partially completed.
THE DEVELOPMENT, known
as the Pickney Recreation Area,
centers around Silver Lake which
has the best picnicing and swim-
ming facilities around Ann Arbor.
Gorman, Bruin, Halfmoon
and South Lakes also have de-
veloped picnic areas. Although
they have no beaches they are
suitable for swimming.
These lakes and the many
smaller ones in the area are vir-
tually unknown and therefore
never crowded. Detailed informa-
tion may be obtained from the
project office at Silver Lake.
Independance - Lake which is
privately owned and has a nom-
inal admission charge offers beach
facilities second only to Silver
Lake, including picnic tables, fire-
places, anda hard-bottomed
swimming area.
