Good old-fashioned melodrama, Dion Boucicault's play teems with cowardly villains, h a n d s o m e heroes, plighted heroines and an action-packed plot of Wall Street panics, attempted murder, multiple suicide-although nobody's suc- cessful-and the battle of the ele- ments. * * * THE CASE of comedy versus tragedy will be fought by 27 play production students. Gideon Bloodgood, whose only object in life is to harm others, 17-.I will be snarled by Ron Soble, G r a d. Eventually traitor to Bloodgood's villainous cause, Badger will be played by Bill Taylor, Grad. Typically the hero down to the fine points of curly hair and high brow, Jim Bob Stephenson will strut the "I'll protect you with my life" Mark Livingstone. Stephen- son, a grad student in the speech department, ably handled the lead in "Green Grow the Lilacs," the speech department's first presenta tion this summer. * * * TRUE TO melodramatic form, the play boasts of a poor little rich girl. Deserted by all because her father fell with the stockmarket, Alida, played by Delores Rashid, Grad., seeks to win the hero's love. Miss Rashid was also seen in "Green Grow the Lilacs." But it is to Lucy thatthe be- sieged hero turns his love. Por- trayed by Doris Medina, Lucy flounces through dangers into her lover's arms. Others in the cast will be Jean- nete Grandstaff, Norma Stolzen- bach, Clarence Stephenson, Wil- lard Booth, Art Nevins, Lloyd VTan- Valkenburgh and Conrad Stolzen- bach, all of whom are graduate students in speech. * * * THE PLAY is being directed by Prof. Hugh Z. Norton, who also di-7 rected the campus presentation of "An Enemy of the People" earlier this season. William H. Hender- son of the First Presbyterian Church will leave Ann Arbor to take a position as minister to Presbyterian students at Iowa State College. Mr. Henderson came to the Uni- versity three years ago from the University of West Virginia. He has served as assistant student director and as University coun- sellor for Presbyterian students. The second minister to leave the First Presbyterian Church this year, he has also served as president of the Christian Stu- dent Directors on campus. Rev. William P. Lemon, pastor for the past 16 years, resigned last May. Mr. Henderson will leave Ann Arbor early in August to make his home in Ames, and a new minister is expected to be appointed by Sept. 1. West Lodge, formerly a men's dormitory for single men employ- ed at the Willow Run bomber plant, will be converted into 11 classrooms, a cafeteria, recreation center, offices, a maintenance shop and storage space. The work is expected to be completed by Sept. 1. The School District obtained the building, built in 1943, from the Federal Security Administration in May. Rights to all uranium de- posits which might be found there were waived first, a formality in all governnent land contracts since development of the A-bomb.
