To make room for Niarhos on the roster under the major league player-limit, the Sox will assign catcher Eddie Malone at once to the Kansas City club of the American Association. Niarhos came to the Yanks at the start of the 1948 season. He is 28 and bats, throws right hand- ed and in 32 games batted .279 for the Yanks last year.
