Heading the list of Wolverine entrees is towering Harry Holiday, captain-elect of the 1948 tank squad who will defend his two Na- tional titles - the 100 meter back- stroke and the 300 meter individ- ual medley. Holiday completed his training yesterday at the Detroit Boat Club, and will head south this morning at the wheel of his new automobile along with team- mate Gil Evans and Wally Ris, National indoor 50-yard champ from the University of Iowa. Others Leave Soon The other Texas-bound Wolver- ine swimmers - Dick Weinberg' Bob Sohl, Gus Stager, Charlie Moss, and Matt Mann III - will ,. leave within a few days. Coach Matt Mann, who has been spend- ing the summer at his Canadaian camp, will join them in Texas and next month all will fly to Hono- lulu for a summer meet promoted by Keo Nakama, one-time Ohio State champion. It was also announced that Hol- iday will swim with Michigan teammates Dick Weinberg and Bob Soh in the 300 and 800 medley relays. Sohl, Big Ten 220-yard breaststroke titlist, and Weinberg, National' Intercollegiate 50 and 100-yard freestyle champ, will al- so compete in their individual specialties. Dr.hDavid E. Reese of Dayton, Mid-American president, called 4the °midsummer meeting to enable the four other Conference mem- bers to "get acquainted" with the newcomers. Reese said that the circuit had decided to delay official campaign- ing for a football champion until 1948. He said the withdrawal of Wayne University of Detroit and acceptance of the two new mem- bers, both with previously drafted football schedules, precluded possi- bility of having each college meet .r four other league members next season. "By1948," Reese said, "the Mid- America will be a fully established conference. Football now is the only sport in which we will not officially name a champion next year. i Reese said that members would play a 10-game round-robin bas- ketball schedule to decide the ) championship and would be or- ganized for competition infour spring sports-golf, tennis, track and baseball. Reese said the first such carni- val would be staged next spring at Athens, Ohio, home of Ohio University, at a date to be de- cided. enter Michigan during his fresh- man year, will represent the Maize and Blue in the long distance events for the first time since 1946. Ohio State will be seeking their fourth major title of the year in the Tyler event. Stiffest competi- tion is expected from Michigan, San Francisco's famed Olympic Club, Yale, University of Texas, and from several Canadian, Ha- waiian, and Mexican schools.
