PAGE FIVE Summer Prom Will Be Open To Civilians, Servicemen Here I Following in the footsteps of last Summer's only all-campus dance, the Summer Prom to be held from 8:30 p.m. to midnight Aug. 14 in Water- man Gym will be open to all civil- ianis and servicemen stationed here. The orchestra for the dance is still unnamed, but the announcement will be made shortly, Chuck Dotterrer, 44, general chairman of the central committee, said yesterday. Last summer's dance was held in the Intramural Building, with Hal IcIntyre and his orchestra. "This sear we decided to hold the dance a little closer to campus," Dotterrer said. "There hasn't been an all- ca,mpus dance actually on the cam- pus for a long time." The only big dance to be held here during the summer termnthe Prom is -being offered 'early 'enough for summer session students as well as those enrolled in the term to attend. Members of the centrol committee for the dance include Carol >MicCor- mick, music; John Clippert, floor; Roy Boucher and Rupert Straub, tickets; Erwin Larsen and Dean Monson, publicity; and Libby Swish- er, patrons. Patrons and the opening date of the ticket sale will- be announced later when the orchestra is named. Proceeds from the dance will be do- nated to the Bomber Scholarship. USO To Hold Servicemen's Dance Today All servicemen stationed on cam- pus are invited to attend the Uni- versity USO dance to be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. today in the League, it was announced by Monna Heath, '44, )president of the Women's War Council. The hostesses, who 'are till members of 'the newly created University USO Volunteers, will be on hand to greet the guests. The Grand Rapids room. will feature dancing to the tunes of a juke box. Bill Sawyer To Play Today League Dance To Feature New Melody from MGM's 'Russia' A new Jerome Kern tune,' 'And Russia Is Her Name," will be the fea- ture attraction of the League dance to be held from 9 a.m. to midnight today in the ballroom, it was an- nounced yesterday by Bill Sawyer, band leader. The dance 'is open to coeds, stu- dents and servicemen. "Because. of the marvelous response to the Friday and Saturday dances," Sawyer stat- ed, "servicemen in uniform will now receive a 30 cents reduction in ad- mission price. As the dances are run on a non-profit basis, the reduced rates will be continued as long as we can break even." The new song which is to be fea- tured is from the MGM picture, "Russia," and Sawyer expressed the belief that this would be the first time it has been played in Ann Arbor.
