Weekend: Any woman expecting to be out of her house Friday, Satur- day or Sunday night must notify the head of the house personally, leave address in advance and sign in when she returns. Mid-week: Any woman wishing to be out of her house overnight during the week (Monday through Thurs- day) must register her plan in the Office of the Dean of Women before 5 p. m. of that day. She must leave her address at her house and sign in when she returns. Late Return from Out of Town: To secure this type of late permission for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, a wo- man must obtain permission from the Dean's Office. On Saturday and Sunday nights she may receive per- mission from the House Head who may not give it for a return later than 1:30 a. m. on Saturday or 12 p. m. on Sunday. Campus: Women who attend the following events must be in the house one-half hour after their termina- tion: parties that are late dances by permission of the Committee on Stu- dent Affairs, Choral Union Concerts and May Festival Concerts, Orator- ical Association Lectures, Dramatic Season Plays, their own class func- tions, athletic events, Play Produc- tion, special lectures and functions in the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre. Freshman Women: In the case of plays which run throughout the week, freshmen are expected to at- tend on weekend nights. Permission for all late campus functions not list- ed above must be obtained from the Office of the Dean of Women. Upperclass Women: They must ar- range in advance with the house head when attending late campus functions not listed above. We of Michig and other LORRAINE JUDSON Undergraduate Council Fulfills Important Role Defense Committee Is Adder To Aid National War Program Under Chairman Peggy lhling The Undergraduate Council, a group representative of the entire woman's student body, performs an important function of the University in organizing and supervising wo- men's activities and in initiating all business for the undergraduate Michigan League. A new member has been added to the Council personnel, which was ap- pointed and installed in office the latter part of the second semester last year, to take charge of the de- fense activities as the League's con- tribution to the national war pro- gram. In charge of this Defense Com- mittee is Peggy Ihling. Led by Charlotte Thompson The entire group is under the lead- ership of Charlotte Thompson, '43, president of the League. Her assis- tants include two vice-presidents, Marjorie Storkan, chairman of The- atre Arts, and Virginia Capron, chairman of Orientation. Other members of the Council in- clude Lorraine Judson, president of the Judiciary Committee, Betty New- man, president of Assembly, and Vir- ginia Morse, president of Panhellenic Association. In addition, the following women will serve on the Council: Barbara McLaughlin and Eleanor Rakestraw, secretary and treasurer of the League, respectively; and chairmen of the League standing committees, which include Mary Lou Ewing, dance classes; Marjorie Mahon, candy-booth; Marallyn MacRitchie, merit system, and Margaret Brown, social. Chairmen Appointed Chairmen of standing committees are appointed by the retiring Under- graduate Council from recommenda- tions submitted by Judiciary Com- mittee. Concluding the list of Council members are Barbara Alcorn, tutor- ial chairman; Nancy Filstrup, pres- ident of Women's Athletic Associa- tion and Barbara DeFries, women's editor of The Daily. One of the major duties of the Undergraduate Council is to approve all recommendations given to it by the Judiciary Council for the princi- pal positions in all class projects and for the-important League positions. Council Guides Work All extracurricular work on the part of women is guided by the Coun- cil. In addition to this, the group submits a report of all action which concerns the women of the campus must be registered in the Office of the Dean of Women before 5 p. m. of that day. Any lateness of 30 minutes or over makes it necessary for the offender to appear before Judiciary Commit- tee. Latenesses are cumulative through- out the entire school year. Penalties are as follows: For each lateness: Five times the number of minutes, e. g. two minutes late, ten-minute penalty the Friday or Saturday night following the late- ness. Four latenesses during one semes- ter: In residence by 8 p. m. the fol- lowing Friday and Saturday nights. Five latenesses during one semes- ter: Report offender to Judiciary Committee. Six latenesses during two semes- ters: In residence by 8 p. m. the fol- lowing Friday and Saturday nights. Seven latenesses during two semes- ters: Report offender to Judiciary Committee. These penalties must be imposed by the disciplinary officer or council in each residence. During the examination period in June, latenesses are to be reported to the Office of the Dean of Women. Tuesday through Thursday, Octo- ber 6-8-Coffee, Cocoa, Tea, 7:30- 9:30. No more than two waiters used for these. Friday, October 9-No rushing. Saturday, October 10-Luncheon, 12:00-1:30, or Buffet Supper, 5:30- 7:30. Sunday. October 11--Breakfast. 9:00-10:30, or Buffet Supper, 5:30- 7:30. Monday, October 12-Coffee, Co- coa, Tea, 7:30-9:30. Tuesday, October 13-No rushing. Wednesday and Thursday, Octo- ber 14 and 15--Informal dinners, 6:15-9:15. 4. From 9:15 p. m. on Thursday, October 15 until 9:00 p. m. on Sat- urday, October 17, there shall be absolutely no communication with any rushee. Silence period between sororities and those who have re- ceived bids shall end at 9:00 p. m. Saturday, October 17.
