THE MICHIGAN DAILY WDnSDAY . t . ._ Prof. Schorlmg Will Give Talk On Education Speech Discusses Trends In Social Mathematics As Part Of Series Here Trends in social mathematics will be discussed at 4:05 p.m. today in the University .High School Audi- torium by Prof. Raleigh Schorling of the education school. The talk is part of a seres on "State and National Trends in Edu- cation." In' the lecture yesterday, Dr. F. Dean McClusky described the "teach- ing of human relations in secondary schools," as practiced at the Scars- borough School. The personality, he indicated, is analyzed in terms of its four major aspects: the intellectual, the physi- cal, the social and the emotional. The process of bringing the person- ality into balance is regarded as a problem in learning and is ap- proached from the point of view of the psychology of learning. The students at the ghool, Dr. McClusky pointed out, are encour- aged to study various aspects of the total situation and to report to the class. Various types of study activi- ties areemployed, such as reading, group or individual projects and ex- cursions. Each student keeps a notebook. No textbook is used and the evaluation of the student's progress is based upon the evidence of his or her un- derstanding of the major problems as revealed im reports and in the carry-over to other phases of school and home life. Prof. Howard Y. McClusky of the education school will give the final talk in this series at 4:05 p.m. to- morrow on "The Conservation of American Youth." )teet ou'v'r9.eie,4 have a drink hear the ballgame You'll enjoy them all the more at the of the, UNIO N ASSOCIATED PRESS DC!
