THIE MICHmAIN DAILY FRIDAY, JULY 12, 1940 Loses 7 to 3; Reds Beat Dodgers II E- .1 t 'Eskimos'l By JUNE McKEE The Federal Communications Com- mission has finally issued the eagerly awaited "Standards of Good Engin- eering Practice" governing high fre- quency (FM) broadcast stations. It will soon send out application forms for broadcasting on frequency modu- lated bands. Since the University of Michigan is authorized by the FCC to apply for FM license-one of the first uni- versities so sanctioned-it is merely a matter of time until the U. of M. has a transmitter on the new educa- tional frequency band, empowered with 42 to 43 megacycles. In the "Standards" published, specifications are made regarding the improvement necessary in studio equipment for qualification in FM air work, the allocation standards, ob- jectional interference, transmitter location, determination and main- tenance of operating power, FM sta- tions' proof of performance, indicat- ing instruments, and field intensity measurements. In the meantime, the Michigan University takes the air five days weekly on the summer schedule, through courtesy of stations WJR in Detroit and WCAR in Pontiac. This week, Pontiac listeners heard "The Mills of the Gods" performed on Tuesday, under direction of the author, Prof. Michael Kinsella. Har- old Mikle, Grad., announced the broadcast, and Bill Gram, Mary El- len Wheeler, May Kujanpaa, George Batka, William Blackler, Al Johnson, Edith Driver, Margaret Fairchild, Joe Gouge, Charles Hill, Jean Ruth, Burnette Staebler, John Walsh, Don Dloedon, and Cecile Chubb, cared for the characterizations.
