SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 1940 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE FIVE Hughes' Plane Sold To Brit Will Be Used For Service Between London, Egypt NEW YORK, Aug. 9.-(1P)-How- ard Hughes' famous "flying labora- tory"'jn which he flashed around the world two years ago to set a globe- circling record, left Los Angeles to- night heading for a war-time mission of courier service between London and Egypt. It was bought several days ago for an undisclosed sum, sources here said, by the British purchasing com- mission. The young, wealthy film producer set his round-the world mark of 3 days, 19 hours and 17 minutes, in July, 1938, in the big silver mono- plane. The low-winged Lockheed was ex- pected to land at Floyd Bennett air- port late tomorrow, but it was possi- ble it might arrive early tomorrow morning.
