Roosevelt in her little blue roadster. Twice an automobile driven by Mrs. Frank Brennan, wifc of the collector of customs of this port, nearly rammed Mrs. Roosegelt's roadster and each time the quick action of Lorena A. Hickok, her companion who was at the wheel, averted a crash. At the city limits Mrs. Brennan drove her car from a side street onto the highway directly in front of the roadster. Miss Hickok swerved the car barely in time to avoid a collision. A few minutes later as Miss Hickok was making a left turn Mrs. Brennan tried to cut her machine in between the blue roadster and another car fol- lowing closely behind. Miss Hickok stepped on the throttle and again [avoided a crash. Mrs. Roosevelt and Miss Hickok drew up at a service station a short distance away and when Mrs. Bren- nan stopped alongside, the first lady greeted her with a smile and shook hands with her small child. Apparently considering the incident closed, Mrs. Roosevelt continued northward as soon as her car was refueled on her way to Portland, Ore. Monarchists Of Austria Hopeful For Rule -Associated Press Photo The trend of events in Austria, coupled with the appointment of Dr. "" Kurt Schuschnigg as chancellor, has cheered monarchists who hope to place Archduke Otto (left), the Haps- Iburg pretender, on the throne. While Dr. Schuschnigg is a rank monarch- I ist himself, he is not expected to at- tempt to further Otto's case in view of the present complex international S situation.
