Indiana Places $1.50 per $100 Limit on Taxes INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 9.-(/P)-Tax rates in Indiana today were limited to $1.50 on each $100 of taxable property, but the general assembly was seeking new tax sources to make up an expected deficit of $5,000,000 in the 1933 state operating budget. Gov. Harry G. Leslie, refusing either to veto or to sign the tax limitation measure, permitted it to become a law at midnight, the ex- piration of the constitutional three- day limit since it reached him. The act was passed by the special tax session of the assembly, despite the governor's warning it would bring "chaos and a collapse of govern- ment." Frantic last-minute attempts in the senate to recall it from the executive desk were voted down Mon- day. The state's levy on each $100 of taxable property is limited to 15 cents, of which 10.3 cents is absorbed by fixed mandatory levies. The re- I!
