Chang ~NE1WS F O O H R ,L E CHICAGO.-"The cinch course must go," was the substance of anI address by Chauncey Boucher, dean of the colleges of art, literature, and science of the University of Chicago, before the institute for administrative officers held here recently. Modern universities, ac- cording to Prof. Boucher, are emerging from a period of educa- tional hysteria which made it pos- sible for students to go through college almost entirely on "cinch" courses and popular electives, and are mapping out courses of study designed to supply a thorough groundwork. "The modern trend is toward major emphasis in the first two years on the breadth of general education," he said, "and though that education should be continued in the senior college, the major, emphasis of the last two years should be upon concentration in ann depth of penetration of some necessary to enlarge its quarters to caref or the growing number of women who have become victims of the liquor habit. In the new build- ing, which will provide facilities for 50 additional patients, separate quarters are to be set aside for women, aicording to an announce- ment of the secretary today. NEW YORK.-In a world where a man generally provides his wife's "fine feathers," Mrs. Bruce Christen has the distinction of reversing the process and making her husband's clothes. The idea, begun several years ago as a hobby, has grown until even the neighbors are being supplied with cloth for next win- ter's overcoats. Working with a sib by four foot loom and wools imported from Scotland already washed and combed and ready to be wound on huge spools, she weaves the cloth in her spare mo- ments between caring for her home and her two small children, both under three years. Ten to twenty hours of actual weaving after the warp threads are set up, she says, are needed to complete a length of cloth sufficient for one of her husband's suits.
