After the first $1,000,000 was raised for the Women's League building, At was found that the entire amount was required for the completion of the main unit and an auditorium wing could not be built. However, Pond and Pond, the architects, were au- thorized to prepare plans for the main unit and an auditorium wing. To help secure the necessary funds for the auditorium wing, undergradu- ate women pledged $50,000 to be giv- en in yearly installments of $10,000. This money will be earned by extra- curricular activities, such as the "Junior Girls' Play." When the con-; tracts for the main unit were let, the shell of the auditorium wing was as- sured. To aid in the completion of this wing D. M. Ferry, Jr., Detroit, gave $8,000, an anonymous gift of $2,000 was received, and $10,000 was given by the Michigan women of Ann Arbor. Now with this latest gift of $50,000 the auditorium wing is assur- ed. In having the auditorium com- pleted when the contractors are al- ready on the grounds means a saving of $25,000. When the contractors turn the Women's League Buildingj over to the Women's League of the University it will be a completed building. The auditorium wing will contain, besides the aurditorium proper, dress- ing rooms and a series of committee or club rooms. These rooms which will be on the floor below the audi- torium will open on the patio, while the stage of the auditorium will open on a terrace above the patio. These rooms will be especially useful as equipment will be installed for the making of costumes, the painting of scenery and the rehearsing of plays. In future years, the costumes for Junior Girls' Play can be made there and the scenery can be both designed and painted there. The stage of the auditorium is large. The equipment for lighting the stage will be only the minimum amount necessary, but it will be ar- ranged in such a way that as more funds are available more equipment can be added without tearing out, what has already been installed. Seniors in the University are urged to pay their life membership in the Women's League soon, for on July 1' the memberships will be raised from, $40 to $50. All women in the Univer- sity may have their life membership in the League for $40 if this is paid before they graduate. The amount of money which they pay will be in part determined by the amount already paid with the tuition, $10 each year. Freshmen will automatically become members at the completion of their four years. All women attending the University are free to use the Women's League building, but all others must be members in order to enjoy this privilege. Alumnae mem- berships are $50, memberships for wives of faculty members are $50, faculty women may have member- ships for $50, and members of the Ann Arbor branch of the American Association of University Women may have memberships for $50.
