CAMP TO OPEN JULY 26

DETROIT, July 6-Michigan's quota
Ur the Citizens' Military Training
Camps at Camp Custer is filled, ac-
cording to information from the Sixth
Corps Area headquarters at Chicago,
to Phelps Newberry, civilian aide for
Michigan to Secretary of War Davis.
Michigan can enroll C. M. -T. C. stu-
dents for Camp McCoy, Wis., in the
Red, White and Blue courses for the
field artillery.t
There are still le'ss than 100 va-
cancies before Michigan.will have its
quota of 1,878 young men, and young
men will be enrolled as alternates,
and called for camp in case some of
the young men who have been accept-
ed find they can not attend camp
because of illness or some other good
reason.
Mrs. Arthur C. Kimball, who has
been the hostess at the Hostess house
at Camp Custer for the last two years
has been selected as hostess again
this year, and is now on duty at the
Hostess house. The Michigan Patri-
otic Fund, of which Phelps Newber-
ry is the president, Walter C Cole,
vice-president, and the Guardian
Trust Co., treasurer, with the assis-
tance of the Battle Creek Chamber
of Commerce, is paying all the ex-
pense of Camp Custer that is not paid
by the government.
Colonel Alvin C. Gillom, command-
ing officer at Camp Custer, is enthu-
siastic in his praise of the "new
Camp Custer As it appears today.
Many improvements have been estab-
lished and the trainees will. find more
comfort in camp this year than ever
before.
The training camps at Camp Cus-
ter and Fort Brady will open on July
26 and close on August 24. While
visitors day will be Aug. 17, Colonel
Gillom announces that parents and
relatives of the young men in camp
will be welcome any day they de'slre
to visit Camp Custer.
DISSENTION NOTED
