Northrop holds the Western Confer- ence record in the javelin with distance of 207 feet, and was consid ered as a likely member of the Amer- ican Olympic team in that event. His injury yesterday recalls the one of Hoffman, Michigan track star of four years ago, who, after establishing a new record in the javelin throw at the national collegiate meet which stood until this year, injured his arm while practicing for the Olympic trials. With Northrop out, only four and possibly five, University of Michigan athletes will compete in the trials a1 Detroit. Captain-elect Wilfred Ketz, national collegiate champion in the hammer throw, and Campbell, will compete in the hammer event. Jones is entered in the 400 meter hurdles, while Tolen, freshman star, will run in the 100 yard dash. Don. Cooper, who is directing athletics at a mili- tary camp, is another possible Michi- gan entry in the 120 yard high hurc les. He was Big Ten champion in that event during the last season. Buck Hester, captain of the 192 Wolverine track team, will participate in the Canadian Olympic trials to morrow. Hester was a member o the Canadian team in the Olympics i 1924. It has been arranged so that on days of football games, when many crowds are in town, that meals will be served both in the cafeteria and in the assembly room.
