FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 1928 THE SUMMER MICHIGAN DAILY PAETHREEB PROGRAM FOR CONCERT SERIES IS ANNOUNCED FAMOUS ARTISTS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR HERE NEXT YEAR MARKS FIFTIETH SEASON Rosa Ponselle, Dramatic Soprano, Abelita Galli-Curci, Coloratura So- prano, Vladimir Rorowitz, Pianist, Fritz Kreisler, Violinist, Roland Hayes, Negro tenor, Sergei Rach- maninoff, Pianist, Yelly D'Aranyi, Violinist, The Prague Teacher Chorus, The Flonzaely Quartet, and The Detroit Symphony Orchestra in two appearances, with Alfred Hertz as guest conductor at one of them, will participate in next season's Choral Union concert series at Hill Auditorium, according to announce- ments made yesterday by the Board of. Directors of the University Musical Society. In commemoration of the nftiethl season of Choral Union concerts, the Board of Directors have authorized. a monumental series of concerts worthy of celebrating the Semi-cen- tenary anniversary of the society's continuous activities. In order to mark the society's unbroken record of a half a century and indicating a future of still greater effort, the Semi- centenary series will be enlarged to ten concerts, combining into one course the regular Choral Union and the Extra Concerts which have been giv- en in the past. The Extra Series as an independent course will be dis- continued. The Semi-Centenary at- tractions announced will be heard in the following order: Rosa Ponselle, recognized as the outstanding operatic, dramatic so- prano of the day, will be heard in re- cital on October 10. Amelita Galll-Curei, recognized throughout the world of music by critics and laymen alike, as the pre- dominant exponent of colorature singing with a group of assisting artists will appear in a song recital October 22. Vladiumir Horowitz, the distinguish- ed Russian pianist, will appear in Ann Arbor for the first time, Novem- ber 12, as soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Victor Kolar. The Flonzaley String Quartet after twenty five-years of continuous suc- cess will make a final tour next sea- son and will say farewell to Ann Arbor in a concert on November 23. Fritz Kreisler, the "King of Violin- ists," recognized throughout the world of music as the greatest of them all, will give a recital Dec. 13. Roland Hayes, the world's outstand- ing Negro tenor, will give a recital on January 18. The Prague Teachers' Chorus, after many years' negotiation will be brought to this country by a special committee of Czechoslovaian Ameri- cans for a limited number of con- certs, one of which will be heard in Ann Arbor on January 24. Sergei Rachmaninoff, will appear in piano recital on February 13, and Yelly D'Aranyi, the noted Hungarian woman violinist, will be here Feb- ruary 20.
